A Word from Captain Flashlight Jr.

“Hi! I’m Captain Flashlight Jr.
We’re making a show that mixes the scripture-based heart of Davey & Goliath, the humor of VeggieTales, and the warmth of Barney & Friends.

WHY?
Our stories, created for children ages 5-12, follow me, my friends and family as we discover truth, courage, and kindness… all from a kid’s point of view.

We’re raising funds to produce our pilot episode, which will help us launch the entire series. Every gift matters!

Calling all Christians! If you believe kids deserve stories filled with faith, family, and wonder – please join us.

And even if you can’t give, we need your help sharing this campaign. We need to reach like minded-people that believe in traditional values and want to provide positive guidance to our children and grandchildren. You can be a difference-maker in helping bring this important project to life. Your donation will allow us to reach kids across the world with the word of God.

Let’s shine light together.
Captain Flashlight Jr.”

Captain Flashlight Jr. Pilot Episode

Set in Filament City, Captain Flashlight Jr. follows a group of middle-school friends discovering how faith, courage, and truth can shine through everyday life. Their adventures show how God’s light can guide ordinary choices in extraordinary ways.

NOAH RAYMER aka CAPTAIN FLASHLIGHT Jr., looks like your normal 12-year old kid, wearing his favorite blue hoodie and bluejeans. But when challenges arise, he suits up as the Captain, ready to SHINE! Then God’s light reveals truth–and conquers darkness.

The World of Captain Flashlight Jr.

Maya Carter

A professional cyclist at 11 years old, is curious, confident, and full of good questions. And: she’s FAST. At everything! Including problem-solving and seeing challenges from new perspectives. “Faith and curiosity go hand in hand,” Maya says.

Ellie Brighton

Noah’s best buddy, blonde and super-smart, is partially deaf, but fluent in sign language and gifted with remarkable recall. She knows Scripture by heart and when things get tough, she fires off the RIGHT BIBLE VERSE at just the right time.

Finn O'Malley

Finn is a builder. A gadget-maker. A pre-teen genius at making something from nothing and doing it NOW. The brain beneath the flaming red hair is creative and positive, a thinker ready to tinker. When the team is stuck, he says, “Guys. I’ve got it!

Glow, The Firefly

A firefly? REALLY? But the little bug, housed on the Captain’s belt, uses his finely-tuned backside to illuminate details others miss. Glow adds warmth and humor to the team, with his buzz-talk that no one can understand, except the Captain.

Noah's Family

The close family dynamic provides steady love and guidance at home, modeling faith in everyday moments. His mom cooks up unusual but delicious meals, while dad munches on pretzels and brings Scripture to life with pretzel object lessons.

Dr. Lilly Lumenette

Filament City Middle School’s science teacher. She encourages curiosity, loves experiments, and recites lesser-known Bible verses, showing students how faith, learning, and wonder fit together PERFECTLY.

Why are we doing this, now?
A note from the creators

Hi, I’m Rod Butler.

As a former Director of Children’s Programming at KCBI, my passion for teaching children is still as powerful and purposeful as ever. I’ve been taking the pulse of children’s programming for many years. I’ve watched as, sadly, many of the kid’s TV shows, movies, and games have taken a turn for the worst. Worldly, non-biblical agendas have darkened almost all of the media providers we used to trust. At the same time, the faith-based programs that once thrived are now few and far between. I realize that Captain Flashlight is only one program, but my desire is to offer it as a fun, Bible-based series families can trust and kids can truly enjoy—without violence, without sarcasm, and with lessons that build both character and faith.

We look back to Davey & GoliathVeggie Tales, and Barney & Friends as shining examples of programming that parents could trust—shows that entertained while teaching values. Captain Flashlight carries that same tradition forward, bringing fresh storytelling, faith-powered themes, and light-filled adventures for today’s kids. We invite kids and families to shine brightly, live boldly, and reclaim children’s programming for the Kingdom of God.

Through Filament City Media and Captain Flashlight we will spread the Good Word

Howdy, I’m Steve Gaçonnier.

My passion for Captain Flashlight Jr. is deeply personal. Earlier this year, while watching the memorial of Charlie Kirk, I was moved to ask myself: What am I doing with the creative gifts and experience God has given me? How am I making a difference? That moment was a calling—and just days later, Rod Butler, creator of Captain Flashlight and my collaborator from over 15 years ago, reached out to reconnect. The timing was no coincidence.

Over the past 30 years, I’ve built a career in feature films, national commercials, documentaries, and video games—leading teams and shaping stories that connect with audiences. In that time, I’ve been entrusted with more than $55 million in productions, consistently delivering high-quality creative work while being a careful steward of budgets and resources.

Reuniting with Rod to expand the Captain Flashlight universe feels like the perfect convergence of my faith, my creative-business expertise, and my professional journey. This isn’t just another production for me… it’s a calling to inspire, uplift, and leave a lasting positive impact on children and families for decades to come.

About the Animation Studio:

Behind Janimation are creators who have contributed to films and series that became part of everyday childhood — including Barney & Friends, Sesame Street, Spy Kids Thomas & Friends, and Hugo. From whimsical adventures to heartfelt stories, our work has helped bring worlds to life where imagination, courage, and kindness are always at the center.

Now, we’re creating something new.

Everything we’ve learned over decades in film and animation is now going into stories made to encourage kids, strengthen families, and spark imagination.

This crowdfunding project isn’t just about funding.
It’s about building something together for future generations.

When you back Captain Flashlight Jr, you’re helping create the kind of stories we all wish there were more of that inspire hope, meaning, and love.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the risks?

The primary challenge will be reaching a wider audience. The more people share the project, the lower the risk will be.

Are you using AI?

Yes, our artists and animators have developed a Gen AI workstream to create our content. We only use models that have provided indemnification for their training. Additionally, we have utilized AI support in marketing, tactics, communication, and research.

We have also used Gen AI to develop the characters around Captain Flashlight Jr., as well as custom drawings, compositing, and Photoshop work. We own the intellectual property rights for Captain Flashlight and Captain Flashlight Jr., and we have the right to use them in any iterative generation that we deem useful to our mission.

When will we see the pilot?

The pilot episode will be screened virtually upon completion for all our donors. In addition, we will likely have a few live screenings at churches and theaters.

How do you plan to fund the rest of the season?

The pilot is the key to securing funding for the season. We will screen the pilot to major distribution outlets such as Netflix, Angel, Amazon, Wonder Project, and others. If the response is overwhelming, we may consider continuing to crowdfund and seek support from Christian churches. In the 1960s, the Lutheran Church funded Davey & Goliath. It would be an incredible achievement to receive support from all Christian denominations!

When can we expect production to begin?

Production will commence as funding increases. Every dollar contributes to bringing the first episode closer to completion!

THANK YOU!

We are grateful for your interest, generosity and continued influence in making our kids future a success.
